Bel Canto Reloaded – recital by Klára Kolonits on 16 October
Bel canto, or beautiful singing is the absolute respect for the aesthetics of melody and musical forms as well as the art of maximising one's exploitation of technical skill. Looking back at this unique, clearly definable Italo-French style after two hundred years, we can see that besides the great Italian triad (Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini), Meyerbeer, Auber and a few other composers who are less well-known today approached the human voice with special sensitivity; outstanding soprano Klára Kolonits, who is deeply committed to this style, provides some insight into these works – based on her CD of the same title, which was released recently.
